The Present Is The Gift
In the West, we struggle to receive the gift of the presence of another person in the present. We often rush around, filling every moment with tasks and goals to accomplish, and lose sight of the relationships that hold value right before us. When we are with people, our minds are in other places.
Our friends from around the world show us a different way. They invite us to enjoy the moment. Time stops. You're invited in, asked to sit, and served coffee or tea. It's not what happened in traffic on the way. It's not all of the work to be accomplished after you leave. The present moment and you, the guest, are most important. It's humbling and beautiful.
They've shown us how to slow down and focus on the person in front of you and the beauty of the conversation unfolding. We have the following on our website under the "About" page.
“We don't see a refugee as a project to be completed—we see them as a person to be loved."
As much as we give, we also receive in return. Our refugee friends make sure we are seen and loved.
